Accompanied by traditional instruments such as the gendang, gong, and rebana, the music creates an atmosphere that feels both ceremonial and deeply emotional. The dancers move in harmony with the rhythm, transforming performance into a living expression of heritage.
Equally captivating are the traditional costumes. Dancers wear beautifully crafted attire featuring songket fabrics, embroidered details, elegant jewellery, and symbolic colours such as gold, black, and deep red. These visual elements create a striking sense of identity, refinement, and cultural pride.
The beauty of Negeri Sembilan dance serves as a strong source of inspiration for my paintings. I am drawn to the graceful gestures, flowing textiles, and emotional presence of the dancers — translating their movement and spirit onto canvas through expressive brushwork, cultural symbolism, and monochromatic storytelling. Through my work, I aim to preserve the essence of these traditions while celebrating the strength and elegance of women within cultural heritage.
